That Forsyte Woman
1949
Costume seen on Florence Auer as Ann Forsyte Heyman
While all film studios bring out period dramas from time to time, during the golden age of film, it was MGM's costumes that truly had that special attention to detail that was unparalleled. This beautifully Victorian ensemble was designed for Irene, and the amount of detail is impressive considering it was made for a secondary character. This gown is still in existence and in remarkably good condition for its age. For many years it was in Debbie Reynold's costume collection, but was sold off several years ago to another collector. You can find out more abuot this lovely piece here.
