This lovely purple gown was made for Lalla Ward in Crossed Swords. It has been used several times since. In the documentary on the Six Wives of Henry VIII, you can see that the dress has faded significantly, that all the jewels have been removed, and that marks have been left in the fabric from where the original brooch was attached. When it was used again in Henry VIII two years later, it appears some car was taken to cover over these marks by changing the trim on the collar of the dress and adding two strips down the front. The gown was last used on a book cover, though it has been heavily photoshopped and the colour has been changed from purple to blue. |
