This costume worn by John Barrymore as Mercutio in the 1936 production of Romeo and Juliet is described as:
An ivory leather tunic with a brown handpainted abstract pattern. The center front panel and cuffs have pleated cream silk inserts with black velvet cord. The cuffs have attached gold metal ornaments. A Western Costume Co. label reads "Barrymore #2 Mercutio 10-2-25."
The costume was designed by Adrian and Oliver Messel. This costume was additionally worn by Barrymore in the 1941 film Playmates, where the costume was altered to fit Barrymore several years later in his last role, where he portrayed himself.
