About The AUthor

Katie is the creator of Recycled Movie Costumes, where she’s constantly haunted by the ghosts of costumes past. One day, she had an epiphany: if she had to suffer through these recycled costumes, then so should everyone else! And thus, Recycled Movie Costumes was born.

Contrary to popular belief, Katie does not have a photographic memory, nor does she work in the costume industry. She’s just a girl whose life has slowly spiraled out of control after watching too many costume dramas on Masterpiece Theatre.

  1. Btw I think I need some advice. I noticed that a certain type of uniform livery is reused again and again in German & Austrian period dramas. So far I haven’t really tracked it but I think it might be worth it but it also seems like an endless project. I don’t have a point of origin and I don’t even know which costume house they belong to (my best guess is Theaterkunst because they are involved in so many things). So should I go for it and track them or maybe just leave it be as it is “only” something that ever appears on extras?

    • I’d love livery tracking! I think it’s fascinating. We’ve got (1) documented (purple and silver) that I think originated with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and there are some pink/purple Regency ones I’ve seen a lot of that I want to document.  I’m totally okay with livery not being on a main character. The fact that it is a uniform and doesn’t appear on a main character can be part of the talking point, really. Would love to see what you’ve found!

      • In my case, it is grey with black and golden details. It really blends in nicely in the background but once you notice it, you see it everywhere. I probably can’t remember them all now but I will start documenting it now. Especially with Christmas around the corner and therefor fairytale movies, I think I’ll see it quite a few times in the next days.

  2. Moving sounds stressful, especially now around the holidays. Hopefully everything will go smoothly.
I binged Mozart, Mozart last weekend and I didn’t spot a reuse. I don’t think I recommend it since it is pretty much a fanfiction about the Mozart siblings and has only very few things in common with their actual lives. It was still fun however. Excited to see what the sky series Amadeus will do next week. I also found out there is another period drama Germany’s first public broadcaster will release this Christmas and I don’t know whether I’m going to watch it. It is called Schwarzes Gold (Black Gold) and is about oil being found in the Lüneburg Heath (not actually too far from where I live) and the consequences and corruption around it. I mean it is rare anything of our local history actually makes it to screen but I’m usually more into royal dramas, so it’s still a maybe for me.

    • I am going watch Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 after Christmas Eve and New Year and mabey watch Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, i love period dramas with all amazing costumes and i cant wait watch Pride and Prejudice Netflix and The Other Bennet Sister (2026)….
