Weekly News and Updates

History, Loosely Speaking…

June 10, 2026

Both of this week’s costumes are only vaguely representative of the eras from which they supposedly come. It’s a constant challenge when categorizing pieces for the website. While I often place costumes in multiple galleries, I still have to choose one primary gallery for the actual page link.

The blue gown is, in theory, an Antebellum dress, but it is so heavily influenced by 1950s fashion that deciding where it belongs is not exactly straightforward. The Tudor gown presents its own set of challenges, and I’m honestly not entirely sure where to place that one either.

That said, both costumes are beautiful in their own right, and historical accuracy isn’t the only thing that makes a costume interesting. I hope you enjoy this week’s update, and be sure to come back next weekend for more!

About The AUthor

Katie is the creator of Recycled Movie Costumes, where she’s constantly haunted by the ghosts of costumes past. One day, she had an epiphany: if she had to suffer through these recycled costumes, then so should everyone else! And thus, Recycled Movie Costumes was born.

Contrary to popular belief, Katie does not have a photographic memory, nor does she work in the costume industry. She’s just a girl whose life has slowly spiraled out of control after watching too many costume dramas on Masterpiece Theatre.
