Well, the frankly huuuuge project I’ve been working on for the last six weeks is over. We’re talking working 8 AM until Midnight, working weekends. You name it. It was rough. How I managed to keep updates going, I am sure I don’t know. But somehow I did it. Anyway, things are much calmer now, though of course something is always on the horizon, right? The stuff on the horizon is lower stakes…renovating a house, moving, working, preparing for the holidays, charity work, and also prepping for two trips before the end of the year. Allll the things.
One costume and one prop for all of you today. A really beautiful Victorian gown and a really awesome chair that I found twice – from The Sound of Music. I looked into my 20th Century Fox auction catalog, and could not specifically pinpoint if any of these sold, or if they did, what auction lot they would have been, as the descriptions were descript-y enough to really nail anything down.
Those auction catalogs though, man. They’re great. My ones from MGM and Fox both have writing in them, so I know the prices all the stuff went for, which is willlld. And the catalogs list the different productions things were used for (sometimes), so I could in theory just go through the catalogs and document those reuses. You know, with all the free time I have. Hahahahah.
I’m wanting to really start making some videos too. Again..with all the free time I have on my hands.
So many things I want to do. I wish I could deal with this website on a full time basis and get daily updates going, but that’s just not realistic or feasible time/money wise. Maybe someday? We can hope? I AM dedicated to at least posting daily on social media, so those of you familiar with the website will see the content as “old” but those who aren’t on the website frequently will see those posting as “new” even though they aren’t. So that’s something….I hope.

Costume Commentary
Congrats on making it through! Have I ever actually mentioned that while The Sound of Music is an American classic it nearly unheard of in Germany and Austria? Only in recent years we noticed it because of the American obsession with it online. I have yet to watch it. There are actually also German movies about the Trapp family but I haven’t watched them either. The last one as recent as 2015.

It’s a really sweet film. Not generally the kind of thing I like, but I love it. It’s reaaaaallly charming. I would absolutely suggest giving it a watch! I’ve only seen one other movie about the Trapp family – made in the 50s, I believe, and more accurate to the actual story. I’ve also read Maria’s autobiography, which was great!
