Week of Halloween

October 29, 2025

It’s the best week for costumes in terms of “visibility” nation wide. It’s Halloween, and everyone is talking about costumes. The other 51 weeks of the year…not so much. But, hey, we here at Recycled Movie Costumes are talking about costumes all 52 weeks of the year. All costumes all the time. I eat, sleep and breathe costumes.

Anyone doing anything for Halloween? It’s my favorite holiday, but I am not dressing up, nor passing out candy…I’m kind of a buzzkill, I suppose.

Alright all – we’ve got a beautiful green Spencer and a lovely black, floral blouse for you. Five sightings this week, with two costumes. I wish there was a way to count how many sightings we have.  I consider number of costumes + number of sightings.  So if we’ve documented (10) costumes, each with two sightings, that would be (10) costumes and (20) sightings. But as you all know, some of our costumes have like, 4, 5, 6, 7 and more sightings.   We’ve got 1638 costumes documented at this point, which is…a lot.

About The AUthor

Katie is the creator of Recycled Movie Costumes, where she’s constantly haunted by the ghosts of costumes past. One day, she had an epiphany: if she had to suffer through these recycled costumes, then so should everyone else! And thus, Recycled Movie Costumes was born.

Contrary to popular belief, Katie does not have a photographic memory, nor does she work in the costume industry. She’s just a girl whose life has slowly spiraled out of control after watching too many costume dramas on Masterpiece Theatre.

  1. Halloween is mostly a kids festivity in Germany. For costumes, the carneval/Fasching season is much more important here, although it is more a Western Germany thing while the rest of us participates with way less enthusiasm as the region around Cologne.

Anyhow, my friend and I will attend a screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show tomorrow. I’ve never seen it and she always wanted to. We missed out on the stage version, so the movie it is. Next year we’ll watch The Addams Family musical which I thought was this year already. Oh well.

In terms of costumes, I’ve had two finds this week, although one is older and I just forgot to submit it. Have you seen photos from Vogue World? This year’s theme was Hollywood and they had a lot of original costumes on their runway. Now the question is, should be document all of them as reuses or maybe only add them to those costumes we already have sightings off?

    • I wish we had Carneval here! It sounds so cool!
Rocky Horror is a lot of fun – there is lots of audience participation. It’s very silly, but it’s fun.
Would love to see the costumes you found!  Feel free to submit either way you think is best and I’ll adjust if need be.

    • I saw the Vogue event yesterday and couldn’t wait to talk about it here. Orlando, Moulin Rouge, Black Panther, Dune… The idea of mixing costumes and fashion was great. I haven’t watch the full video but here it is for those interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gd9wKJIF7W4
And an article about it which quite details the clothes: https://www.vogue.co.uk/article/what-is-vogue-world-2025-hollywood
I have the same question than you though. Does it fully count as a reuse? I’m not 100% sure. I mean, it’s quite close to a costume exhibit in a way. We mention them if there’s another reuse, but we wouldn’t make a submission just for it. And yet, it’s so  interesting… Could there be a way to do something about the event itself?

      • I think it should definitely be documented because it is a bit more than a usual costume exhibit, isn’t it? It’s a very public event and they are actually worn by people and not just put on manequins. For me, it falls in a similar category as e.g. the dress that was worn on Dynasty and then also the red carpet later on. Maybe a blog post would be the best way. However it also seems like a lot of work for Katie alone. If a blog post is the way to go, is there anyway to help with that?
And if I remember correctly, there was at least one costume it could also be added to and that is the Dangerous Liasion/Hocus Pocus one. I saw perioddramastyle post it yesterday in their story but I don’t know if they submitted it already. It was worn by Synnøve Årda in the show.

        • I agree I think it’s a costume documentation.  Some of our stuff isn’t strictly movie reuses, so I play fast and loose with how it works.  I think I need to try to get the hocus pocus one up on social this week…in the next couple of days, really, as that costume always does REALLY well around Halloween. Thanks for the heads up!

          • This reminds me that I wanted to actually remind you that the first part of The Witcher‘s fourth season (and the first one with Liam Hemsworth instead of Henry Cavill) comes out tomorrow and that it might be good for socials too since there are some documented reuses already. There are so many releases right now. It’s really hard to keep up. If I’m not wrong, next Monday the Robin Hood series also comes out.

        • I thought about a blog post, to present the event itself and all, but like you I didn’t want to add this for Katie. It could be great to figure out a way to help on that sort of “bigger” projects, a shared doc or something. I really don’t know anything about that sort of things sorry.

      • Thank you for these links! I will definitely document them – if they’re reused somewhere, I think it counts. It’s not necessarily in a movie, but we’ve got a few things that veer off from that documnted here.
