About the Costume

This peach robe à la française was designed by James Acheson for Michelle Pfeiffer as Madame De Tourvel in the 1988 Dangerous Liaisons. The gown went on to be used again in the 1993 film Hocus Pocus, where it was worn on Vinessa Shaw as Allison. It was used a third time most recently in 2016 on an uncredited extra in the episode of Drunk History about Alexander Hamilton and it was used a four time recently in 2024 on Kiki Korol as Lady Akailya in Empire Queen: The Golden Age of Magic.  Finally, in 2025, it appeared in the  Vogue World: Hollywood fashion show, worn by Synnøve Årda.

  1. For some reason, Twitter sometimes suggests to me stuff about the band Katseye. Today, I saw a picture of one of their members called Manon wearing a princess dress and was immediately like “Wait! I know that one.” I’m 99,9% sure that it is this dress. Now I only need to figure out what for and when she wore it.

  2. Gotta say, for a fashion show of VOGUE’s caliber, fit and styling are shockingly off and somewhat slovenly Victorian in mindset. Great example of undergarments literally doing some heavy lifting. And it is such a lovely outwardly soft gown.

    • I have a feeling the people putting it on don’t have a great idea of the various periods and/or how to style each as needed. A little more research and thought would have gone a long way. It’s a wonderful gown.
