The Forsytes is airing. Just “The Forsytes” – not “The Forsyte Saga.” I’ll be honest, I haven’t watched it, so I don’t know if it is any good, but it’s got some reused costumes, so I am happy with that. I feel like the blue and cream costume actually comes from an earlier production, but I am not sure where. If you know, let me know!
Busy, busy, busy here through May 14. I am co-chairing a charity event for 500 people, which keeps me very busy. I am trying to stay on schedule with posting, but there is a small possibility that as the event lurches closer that I may not get an update in. That hasn’t happened yet, but if it does, please forgive me.
Check back next week for more!
Costume Commentary
Today’s two finds makes me want to revisit both series. The Forsytes was my first introduction to the story and honestly, it’s a bit camp and low-budget but I enjoyed the six episodes and hope for a second season. Maybe it’s just me but Frances and her father-in-law have a weird chemistry and it wouldn’t surprise me if they end up having an affair in the future. Like she is more married to him than to Jolyon jr. who admittely treats her pretty shitty because of his love for his former affair and baby momma. I finally found out why a tiara in Victoria and Maleficent looked so familiar…they are the same one. Btw has anyone had the chance to check out The Lady Grace Mysteries already? It’s a co-production of the BBC and German public broadcaster ZDF. BBC released the series on April 20th but I’m still waiting on the German one. The trailer doesn’t look too promising but maybe there are a few costumes hiding somewhere in the background.
So, I’ve not watched The Forsytes yet, but I’ve heard they’ve changed quite a few of the plot lines. BUT if you’ve not watched the original from the 60s that’s like 24 HOURS worth of episodes, do yourself a favor. Incredible costumes. Hair is a bit silly, but other than that it’s SO GOOD. It’s basically like…the start of the television costume drama as premiere television.
I have not heard of the Lady Grace Mysteries before! It looks like it could have some costums!
I’ll be on the lookout for that tiara (my internet is down, so I’ve not been online)
Ooof. BBC and ZDF doing a codependent thing now, huh? Gotty say, I’ve long since wished for such a thing to happen, then again, such a project as this was not what I had imagined. Figures. Anyway, the trailer shows a doublet on jester Mazou that may have been in German/European Mainland stock since Emmerich’s ‘Anonymous‘ movie. Before that It was featured in the background in ‘The last Mistress‘ in 2007. Sry, can’t seem to upload images into comments from this device. But I’ve put it into new suggestions.
ETA: A picture…
Do you mean this doublet in The last Mistress (2007)

Nice!
Exactly, that’s the one. Here it is in ‘Anonymus’ 2011. But I’ve taken the caps a good while (oh boy, a decade, at least) back, so they’re not the most HD.

Oh this is cool, thank you!
