Black and White or Color?

July 30, 2025

We have an update to an already documented costume today. This piece is really cool because I love when you see a dress in black and white and later in color. It’s also just got quite a gap of time between its uses.

Also a really very cool blouse used in a couple of television shows!

Not much to report here this week. Keep sending in your submissions and checking back each week for more.

About The AUthor

Katie is the creator of Recycled Movie Costumes, where she’s constantly haunted by the ghosts of costumes past. One day, she had an epiphany: if she had to suffer through these recycled costumes, then so should everyone else! And thus, Recycled Movie Costumes was born.

Contrary to popular belief, Katie does not have a photographic memory, nor does she work in the costume industry. She’s just a girl whose life has slowly spiraled out of control after watching too many costume dramas on Masterpiece Theatre.

  1. My week so far was rather stressful since it’s tax season in Germany and you have to submit your declaration until July 31st if you don’t pay a professional to do it for you. So yeah, since this is only the second year with a tiny business (which runs over my private tax declaration here), it was quite the work and I still feel like I’m comitting fraud. But you gotta do what you gotta do.
Otherwise the week has been calm so far. Although I did find a reuse but also a fabric match to a dress I already submitted. So far I updated the submission with the third reuse but I’m uncertain whether and if, how to, include the fabric match. It feels kind of relevant but also not since it is definitely not the same costume. The costume belong to roughly two decades earlier but it might also help in finding dress “siblings” like that The Scandalous Lady W dress for example.

    • My own system might not be the best either but so far it has served me well. I have three folders: The main one, then one where I push all pictures in of already submitted costumes and one for Jewellery/Accessoires.I name my files [Show] [Character] [Season] [Episode] [short description of what the costume looks like, e.g. blue ruffle dress] [sometimes additional info like other character I have seen it on].

      • For the moment I have one for submitted costumes and one for costumes to submit. It’s for the rest that it’s quite chaotic. Adding the description might be a good idea for searching purpose, kind of like tags! For all the moments I’m like “I’ve seen this already” and need to find all the red necklaces or something.

      • I hope there will be better things for ball scenes or on the Bingley’s sisters. In any case, there are six episodes I think, so we will have a lot of work!
