Costume Commentary
Not sure about the aspect ratio and how a difference would be justified in these streaming ages. I try to get screencaps from cap-that.com as they’re publicly accessable and one thing I’ve noticed is, that masterpiece streams in higher quality than prime (which usually works the latest period dramas in some substreamer or other) or even physical media pressings (blurays still not being the state of play for the German market – or girly period drama usually being neglected for more ‘boyish’ genres). Anyway, the first season of Sanditon had unaired cut scenes that have been released by Red Planet Pictures and then there were the (highly unfortunate and story-stumping) cuts post premiere for selling the program internationally, working the usual (lamentable) advert ratio (45 ‘ series to 15 ‘ ads in an hour when the original episodes had about 53’ runtime). Same thing with seasons 2 and 3, just this time the British TV versions had been affected as well, not just the international versions.
PS: I’ve just noticed that Red Planet Pictures seem to have deleted just mentioned deleted scenes (ha) – as well as every other video – from their vimeo account. Probably due to the company’s rather recently changed stakeholder-ship? Bit of a bummer.
Oh no, that’s too bad!
Oh this is interesting, thank you!
I loved Sandition, it had good drama and costumes and i am tired too in fall/winter but is holding on doing my reused blogs and working hard at my job….I loves period dramas costumes and tv series and movies
I am glad you have something to get you through the winter.
This reminds me that I still haven’t watched Sandition. I just started Ghosts UK and Ghosts US, so maybe after.
About the different aspect ratios, I wonder whether one might be the UK release and the other US Masterpieces one.
I’m with you in feeling exhausted this fall/winter. Everything seems so bleak right now. Anyhow I try to find pleasure in the things I enjoy. Like this site 🙂
Which do you prefer? Ghosts UK or Ghosts US? Or are you too early into it to tell?
I definitely think Masterpiece Theatre has different aspect ratios. I also suspect they cut some scenes as well. I know the format for Downton Abbey was vasty different on both sides of the pond.
I appreciate your kind words about the site. Always helpful to know that people enjoy it here!
I’ve only seen two episode of the US version which were still very close to the UK version but also most definitely Americanized. I enjoy both so far but I decided to go with the UK version first because it only has six episode per season and is already finished, while the US version is still running. I don’t think a US remake was absolutely necessary but from what I’ve seen I liked the changes they’ve made and I’m sure they’ll soon have their own storylines not found in the UK version. I’ll see once I continue past episode 02. My general impression is that the US version is more polished while the UK version is more realistic in its style. I think comparing both side-by-side would be a great case study in how American and European/British tv differ.
What a neat idea! I love that!
Both ghosts tv series is amazing with good costumes, i hope you found reused costumes….
