Fresh Spring Costumes

January 22, 2025

Do you all just want to wear these costumes?  Sometimes when scrolling through all of these costume dramas, I get a little…sad? That might be a bit strong of a word, but something like it. Why can’t we wear lovely bonnets to the grocery store, or hoop skirts to church? I mean, I suppose we can. But my complaint is more about how our clothes now are just kind of…less detailed than what was worn in the past.

If you had to wear clothes from one era, which would it be?  I’m a big fan of panniers myself, so it’s 1770s for me.

One lovely new floral gown today, and several new sightings of an Edwardian piece. Both just lovely and light and pretty and putting me in the mood for spring. I know we are a ways away from that, but I can pretend, right?

About The AUthor

Katie is the creator of Recycled Movie Costumes, where she’s constantly haunted by the ghosts of costumes past. One day, she had an epiphany: if she had to suffer through these recycled costumes, then so should everyone else! And thus, Recycled Movie Costumes was born.

Contrary to popular belief, Katie does not have a photographic memory, nor does she work in the costume industry. She’s just a girl whose life has slowly spiraled out of control after watching too many costume dramas on Masterpiece Theatre.

Costume Commentary

  1. I wouldn’t be able to pick one area, so instead let me say “bring back parasols”! They cover more than hats against the sun and the heat, and with the way summers are getting warmer and warmer… Well, I wish it was normal to have a parasol. And if it’s pretty, all the better!

  2. If I had to choose a time period just for its beauty, it would probably be 1830-1860s in European upper class fashion. I love the wide skirts, the colors and just the general pattern design. However, I really would have some sensory issues with some of the evening dresses as I don’t like sleeves sitting in that off the shoulder carmen neck style. But for everyday style, I would absolutely go with 1950’s New Look dresses. Many of the dresses worn by Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown‘s first season are absolutely my kind of style. I even own a brown dress with white polka dots which is pretty similar to one of her ensembles. Ironically I even brought it in the UK when I studied there for a semester. Anyway, this week I found a reuse of a breast plate and thought that was that. Then out of the blue I walk past my mother watching Borgia for some reason tonight and low and behold what do I see? Excactly, that same breast plate. Funny coincidence.

    • The New Look is just….fantastic. I want to dress that way.  Your gown sounds beautiful!
Yeah, we can’t walk past televisions anymore…even just a glance and it’s “Oh…I’ve seen that…” I tell people I don’t find reused costumes they find me! It sounds like you are much the same!

  3. When i goes true your costumes i am like wish i had that or i can wait who next wear it in future tv series or movies…i loves all colors on costumes or jewellerys…..
