What’s Going On There? Everything!
January 29, 2025
Fabulous Fellini finds and poetic silver gowns for you all today. I’ll wager that there are a lot more things to be found in Fellini’s variation on Casanova, but be warned…there is some, uh, content there. The seventies were a weird time for movies.
There was a cool photo from Marie Antoinette I wanted to use (and did upload in the gallery), but it had a watermark on it. I wanted to find where it originated so I could purchase it, but no luck! Reverse image search failed me! One of these days I need to get together a blog post of photos I need help finding the original source, as there are certainly a few out there that have me stumped.
I was away this weekend at a conference, and was a bit afraid I’d be pressed for time to get this update going, but I had a cancellation in my day on Monday, and swapped some stuff around and voila!
Instagram updated its preferred photos size, so going back and reworking literally every photo from past costumes is now on my agenda of things to do. It never ends, my friends!
More next week, stay tuned!

Katie is the creator of Recycled Movie Costumes, where she’s constantly haunted by the ghosts of costumes past. One day, she had an epiphany: if she had to suffer through these recycled costumes, then so should everyone else! And thus, Recycled Movie Costumes was born.
Contrary to popular belief, Katie does not have a photographic memory, nor does she work in the costume industry. She’s just a girl whose life has slowly spiraled out of control after watching too many costume dramas on Masterpiece Theatre.

It’s so frustrating when reverse image search fail! I’m having the issue with a couple of pictures, but I am mostly annoyed by one specific photo I found on pinterest, on which I recognized a costume I submitted, but I can’t find the source of the picture!

Ironically, one search made me found an old show with many reused costumes, so that was nice, even though the picture looked nothing like the one I was searching…-
Thats sad, if need help find betre photos, let me know i try help…

It’s a German tv show from 1983 called Vom Webstuhl zur Weltmacht.

I never heard of it but I need to check it out. Which also reminds me that one day I might need to watch all episodes of the similarly titled Vom Reich zur Republik and not just the first two (where I already found at least one reused costume).

TinEye is generally better than Google, but even it has failed me. And Google’s image search has changed. It’s frustrating.

I completely relate to looking for photos and suddenly running into more reused costumes in something! Happens to me a lot! Happened just yesterday – I was served up a movie on Youtube and the cover photo had a reused costume. Haha!

I think the picture post might be a good idea. Maybe together we can find the originals or at least in better quality.

I hate instagram changing formats. The whole square thing was literally their entire branding and we already were able to post other formats if we wanted to. Now it looks more like a TikTok clone.
Since we are on the topic of Marie Antoinette, are you aware the 2022 series’ second season will premiere in just 8 days. I haven’t really read anything about it yet. However, I also only just started my second try at the first season. It’s really annoying that Disney+ Germany offers the original English sound but only German subtitles. It’s a bit annoying switching between languages, not impossible but it takes a tiny bit more brain power than necessary if they would just add the English subs as well. Oh well, oh well.
Anyway I had a surprising Emma (2020) find this week while making gifs, as you might have seen.-
I agree, I think I will work to get something up soon-ish.

You’re right, square was their. brand! Also it’s just easier to make and crop. Takes much less thought than what they have now.
I was not aware of the second series happening! Thanks for letting me know. I will be on the lookout for it.
Yes, I saw the beautiful coat from Emma! What a cool find. It’s such a pretty coat. I wonder what else will come up. I am pretty sure the yellow coat that is widely used in all the promos was auctioned off, so I don’t think we will see it again.-
I just found a very similar coat in the archive of Theaterkunst that could, in the future, be easily confused with the Emma one if only seen from a distance.

Oooooh, you are SO RIGHT! Absolutely from the side that would be an easy mistake to make!
