About the Costume

This fabulous coat was described in the Glamour: Famous Gowns of the Silver Screen exhibit as: “Male three-piece suit consisting of frock coat in pink silk faille embroidered with horsehair applications, soutache, and pink chenille; waistcoat in iridescent pink taffeta, pink moiré breeches. Jabot and wrist cuffs in silver lace and pink satin ribbons.”

It was worn by Donald Sutherland as Giacomo Casanova in the 1976 Il Casanova di Federico Fellini (Fellini’s Casanova).

It was reused, likely with a different waistcoat, and far fewer frills in the 2006 Marie Antoinette, where it was worn by James Lance as the hairdresser Léonard.
