Maybe, Maybe Not

We have a beautiful blue Victorian day dress today. It never fails to blow my mind how HD imagery can really change how much detail you can see in a gown.
I also have a gown that I put in the undetermined section, because I have been vacillating back and forth on if it’s the same. There are too many similar elements to not be the same, and yet…there are some differences that are problematic. Let me know your thoughts.
I also have this dress that I found a while back, put it in my large pile of photos, and now just…can’t find it.
This is clearly Glenda Jackson from Mary, Queen of Scots, but I found this dress again somewhere. Obviously some show from the 1970s or 1980s. I remember the movie was obscure (to me) and I had never heard of it. If any of you come across this dress again, please do let me know.

About The AUthor

Katie is the creator of Recycled Movie Costumes, where she’s constantly haunted by the ghosts of costumes past. One day, she had an epiphany: if she had to suffer through these recycled costumes, then so should everyone else! And thus, Recycled Movie Costumes was born.
Contrary to popular belief, Katie does not have a photographic memory, nor does she work in the costume industry. She’s just a girl whose life has slowly spiraled out of control after watching too many costume dramas on Masterpiece Theatre.

Oh wow I can see why it would give a headache! So clearly related and yet so many differences! I mean even the buttons placement would have been changed… And the skirt is very different too from what I found on far far away site for Victoria (episode 5 season 3 for those searching).
The best solution would be to find a third sighting to see if some modifications were started. Or maybe for Victoria we can find some interview from the costume designer? For the Elizabethan one, nothing comes right now but I’ll keep an eye open!

Yeah, exactly! So many differences, but so much the same that it’s hard to believe it couldn’t be the same one…but still…Yeah, if I can find an in-between use that would help a lot!

Found this about the dress in Victoria:

So the shamrocks (I hadn’t realized the “dots” were shamrocks) element is very likely specific to Victoria (while still quite far from what the real Victoria actually wore for the event, as stated in the article)-
Thanks! This is great!

I can’t help with the Elizabethan dress unfortunately.

I took a look at the Victoria one and I think the chest section is identical but the sleeves gave me a bit of a headache. I will take another look on my laptop later and maybe look for more screencaps of both. Maybe together we can determine what we are working with here.-
Thanks! I appreciate you!
