Back from the Brink
May 21, 2025
It’s interesting how costumes change over the years – this one’s embroidery being covered over. You can still see it if you know to look for it. It’s an interesting choice!
Also a beautiful gold circlet, which I am sure I have seen a couple other places that I cannot think of just yet.
I am back from all of my hard work from an event last Thursday. Still very busy, but nothing as urgent as I’ve previously been dealing with.

About The AUthor

Katie is the creator of Recycled Movie Costumes, where she’s constantly haunted by the ghosts of costumes past. One day, she had an epiphany: if she had to suffer through these recycled costumes, then so should everyone else! And thus, Recycled Movie Costumes was born.
Contrary to popular belief, Katie does not have a photographic memory, nor does she work in the costume industry. She’s just a girl whose life has slowly spiraled out of control after watching too many costume dramas on Masterpiece Theatre.

Can’t wait to find the possible other sightings of the circlet. For me, it was a surprise find while browsing pinterest. I haven’t actually watched Ophelia yet but I was aware of the other reuse, so when I saw this promotional still I was like “Wait a second. I know this one.” I wonder if it might come from Isabel, La Corona Partida or Carlos Rey Emperador. There is a cloak that is reused in Maximilian which originated from the first series. Sadly, neither of the three series is available on a German streaming service and even online it is quite difficult to find the series in a good quality with subs. Also promotional stills are hard to come by. There are a few for the first season but RTVE’s site is quite broken in the Isabel section which is unfortunate…but honestly not very surprising when I think of my own public broadcasters’ ones.

The cloak i have seen red and gold with fur on from Maximilian on Mary is worn on Queen Joanna in The Spanish Princess: A Polite Kidnapping (2019) and on mankind in The White Princess: Burgundy (2017), i hope we finds more reused costumes from Maximilian in other tv series and movies and i have seen a lot reused and finds a lot reused costumes from Carlos, Rey Emperador….

Yeah, I’m aware of all these reuses. It also appears on Ferdinand in Isabel, that’s why I think we might be able to find more in Isabel and it’s successor movie and series. It is just hard to access for me because the series never came to my or another German speaking country, RTVE has it behind a pay wall and my school Spanish is insanely limited.
