About the Costume

These chairs are part of a large set of furniture once owned by Twentieth Century Fox (now Twentieth Century Studios). The set appears to comprise of several Louis XV and Louis XVI chairs, both with arms and without, at least two settees, and several bergère chairs, both upholstered and caned. They are all upholstered in a distinctive yellow fabric.

Several variations of chairs appear in the 1963 film Take Her, She’s Mine, before they appeared again in various locations around the von Trapp villa in the 1965 classic, The Sound of Music.

Several of the chairs made their way into the 1966 episode of The Time Tunnel, entitled Rendezvous with Yesterday.

It is likely that these chairs were in many more Fox productions both before 1963 and after 1966. While it is not certain what happened to them, they were most likely sold in the 20th Century Fox auction of 1971, when the studio sold off the bulk of their props and costumes.
