About the Costume

This necklace seems to have been made as a set with matching earrings. However, while the earrings have often been paired with the necklace, they have also appeared on their own.

The necklace has been spotted on at least six occasions. Helen Mirren first wore it as Queen Charlotte in the 1994 film The Madness of King George. The necklace then underwent some changes and adjustments, with larger stones being added at the front. It went on to be used twice in 1996, first by Greta Scacchi as Tsarina Alexandra in Rasputin, as well as by Frances Barber as Lady Jersey in A Royal Scandal. In 2009 it was worn by Iben Hjejle as Queen Sofia Magdalena in Gustav III:s äktenskap (The Marriage of Gustav III). The necklace was used twice in the 2010 revival of Upstairs, Downstairs. It was first seen in the jewelry box of Lady Agnes in the episode The Fledgling and later worn in the episode The Cockoo on an uncredited actress as Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent.
