About the Costume

These lovely hats look similar and were believed to possibly be the same with new trimmings. The second hat is clearly inspired by a portrait of Lady Elizabeth Foster by Angelica Kauffman, who was, interestingly enough, Georgiana’s best friend and her husband’s lover. Kat reached out below to confirm she worked on the hat from The Duchess herself, and therefore they are not the same.

  1. Hi, unfortunately you are incorrect in you’re assumptions about Kiera Knightley’s hat, as I am the milliner that made it and therefore know without doubt they are not the same hat.
    Kat

    • Thanks, Kat! We’ve put this contribution in the ‘undetermined’ section to signify that its match was, in fact, in doubt. But thank you so much for confirming that it most certainly is not the same. I appreciate it, and will be sure to post an update to this page. And how awesome that you were the milliner for this hat! That’s so wonderful!
