About the Costume

There are several variants of this necklace that seem to be floating around. The first of these can be spotted being worn by Monica Bellucci as Sylvia in Le pacte des loups (Brotherhood of the Wolf), a 2001 French period horror film. An extra would be seen in the jewelry in 2001’s Armstrong and Miller. Another extra would put on the piece for the 2004 adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera. The same year saw actress Christine Kavanagh play the role of Lady Helhougton in, Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking, while wearing the choker. The character Florence Ismay, played by an uncredited extra, was seen modeling the piece in the 2005 television movie Titanic: Birth of a Legend. Actress Michelle Dockery was next to wear the piece as Lady Mary Crawley on the hit 2010 television series Downton Abbey. The next sighting was a 2012 episode of Above Suspicion titled Silent Scream. This time it was actress Joanna Vanderham as Amanda Delany who wore the piece. 2012’s Lewis found the item being worn by actress Daisy May as Mia Wallace for the episode titled The Soul of a Genius. The necklace would then appear on the cover of the 2012 novel A White So Red, by the author Krystle Jones.

Costume Commentary

  1. There seems to be a white version of this necklace around there, I spotted it on Stana Katic as Simone Renoir in “The Librarian: The Curse of the Judas Chalice” (2008)

  2. Fun find: Marion Ross as THE orignal Lorelai (Bea?)’Trix’ Gilmore wore a model of the somehow rather kinky necklace in Ep.10 of Season 3 (2003) of “Gilmore Girls”

  3. Here it is… It is not exactly identical to the one worn by Michelle Dockery or Joanna Vanderham, but it looks more similar to the one in Daisy May or “A White so Red”…

  4. Check it here!! It appears in “Once Upon a Time”, season 2, episode 5 (“The Doctor”), worn by Paula Giroday as Trish, Rumplestiltskin’s apprentice…

  5. having seen such a necklace in a recent germen TV-production that is not likely to have lent anything from a big british costume house, i’ve come to believe, that they’re not necessarily the same necklace but from a series of necklaces. anyway, here is one worn by the first victim in the fourth series of “above suspicion (-silent scream)”. it is joanna vanderham playing amanda delany who herself was said to be britains most up an coming young and anorexic actress cast in a costume drama (a quite heavy handed broad hint, if you ask me).
