About the Costume

This pelisse was likely created for Kate Winslet’s portrayal of Marianne Dashwood in the 1995 adaptation of Sense and Sensibility. The 2004 reality series Regency House Party reused the piece on Francesca Martin, though the costume now appears to have velvet around the sleeves, which was not present in Sense and Sensibility. Is it indeed the same costume? The coat went on to be worn in the 2007 adaptation of Mansfield Park, where Billie Piper wore it as Fanny Price.

Costume Commentary

  1. I don’t think the pelisse in The Scarlett Tunic is the same one, as it does not have the cuffs on the sleeves that are seen on marianne’s pelisse, and the collar doesn’t look quite right.
