About the Costume

Ahead of the official release of her twelth studio album The Life of A Showgirl, Taylor Swift shared pictures from a matching photo shoot on her social media channels. In some of them, she wears a showgirl costume. Two of the photos even became the covers for the limited edition Deluxe CD titled It’s Beautiful and the limited Baby, That’s Show Business vinyl collection as well as the Target/official store exclusive vinyl variant titled The Crowd is Your King Edition (Summertime Spritz Pink Shimmer).

Costume designer Bob Mackie revealed on his instagram page that the costume is not just any old replica but an original showgirl costume he designed for the “Jewel Finale” of the Las Vegas show Jubilee! which ran from 1981 to 2016. He described the costume himself as follows: “The bra, undergarments, and armbands are all French wirework and backed with a blush fabric for a nude illusion. The bra and underwear have set stones and drops at the under-bust of the bra and the waistline of the underwear.”

At least three, but probably more, costumes in this style exist as seen in a 2016 photo shoot with the dancers Elyse Corbin, Katherine Schwing and Kaleigh Jones for the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

This isn’t the first time Taylor Swift has opted for reusing costumes from previous productions for her projects. Check out our archive for more!
