About the Costume

This beautiful necklace was first seen in 1998 on an unknown actress playing a courtesan in Dangerous Beauty, an adaptation of the Margaret Rosenthal book The Honest Courtesan. Rachel Stirling would wear the piece while playing the part of Corine in The Triumph of Love in 2001.

The Showtime television series The Tudors used the necklace extensively. In 2007, it was used by an uncredited extra, then in 2008 it was seen on Natalie Dormer as Anne Boleyn, and then on Maude Hirst as Kat Ashley.

2009 saw the necklace on Jane Seymour, played by Annabelle Wallis, and later Joanne King as Jane Boleyn née Parker, Viscountess Rochford. That same year it was also spotted on an uncredited actress as a lady in waiting.

  1. An historical side note: A queen’s jewelry became the property of the crown when she died, especially in the cases of Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn. Henry VIII actually gave Anne Catherine’s jewels before Catherine died and before Anne became queen. It’s been well-documented that Anne wore many of Catherine’s jewels. After Anne was executed, Henry then gave the collection to his new wife Jane Seymour. So “this” necklace was recycled in real life.
