About the Costume

These white Edwardian-style boots were created or Julie Andrews in the 1964 classic film Mary Poppins. But did you know that the shoes went on to be painted over?

It’s true! The pink/red of the tips of her shoes were whitewashed for the 1968 film The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, where Leslie Ann Warren wore them as Alice Bower.

Rick Lorentz of the Walt Disney Archives wrote that, thankfully, one of the archive staff members managed to spot the boots and determine that they had originated with Mary Poppins, helping them to be reunited with the white “Jolly Holiday” gown!
