About the Costume

This black beaded piece was first used in 2014 in Da Vinci’s Demons, where Lara Pulver wore it as Clarice Orsini. It made yet another appearance on Tuppence Middleton as Helene Kuragina in the 2016 production of War and Peace.

This piece, though not historically accurate, is likely loosely inspired by historical pieces called a ferronnière. Frock Flicks wrote on historically accurate Ferronnières and the tendency for films to place a necklace on the head of an actress. Be sure to check out their article on The Truth About Head Necklaces.
