This lovely striped costume made its first appearance in 2009 in the BBC television drama Garrow’s Law, where Lyndsey Marshal wore it as Lady Sarah Hill. The ensemble was seen again in the BBC’s 2013 adaptation of P.D. James’ bestseller Death Comes to Pemberley, where actress Mariah Gale wore it as Mrs. Younge. It was seen again in 2015 on Harriet Ballard as Ruth Treneglos in Poldark.

The fourth appearance of this costume is more interesting. It initially appeared that it was worn in 2015 by Natalie Dormer as Seymour Worsley in The Scandalous Lady W, but in an interview with Frock Flicks, James Keast, costumer for Lady W stated:

I would like to let you all know that the striped moire costume Lady W wears in the courtroom is NOT the same as the costume in Poldark or Gallows Law [he means Garrow’s Law], it was made especially for Natalie for the courtroom scenes, The fabric is from the same company but a different colour, The hat was made especially to match the hat. (I will say the costume maker also made the other costume for Gallows Law).

So the same costume maker made both costumes. I’d be willing to guess that the same pattern was used, perhaps with some minor alterations. The fabric was essentially the same, aside from a tiny color difference, which is not perceptible on screen. To me, though they are different costumes, they are so close to one another that one is clearly based on the other. For this reason, I feel that although not the same – they are effectively duplicates of one another, which Recycled Movie Costumes accounts for and considers generally considers to be “the same” costume.
