About the Costume

This stunning gown was designed by Edward Stevenson for Maureen O’Hara as Contessa Francesca in the 1945 adventure film The Spanish Main. The gown was recycled for use in At Sword’s Point in 1952, where it was seen worn by Gladys Cooper as Queen Anne. Adjustments appear to have been made to the neckline. The gown was purchased by Debbie Reynolds and was ultimately auctioned off to a private collector.
