About the Costume

This costume was designed by James Acheson for the 1988 film Dangerous Liaisons, where it was worn by Uma Thurman as Cécile de Volanges. The gown went on to he worn again by Joanna Going as Victoria Winters in the 1991 Dark Shadows revival, though the lace around the sleeves and neckline seems to have been changed.

The fabric for this gown, often called the “Rubelli Strawberry” fabric, has been used on several other costumes, including pieces from Marie Antoinette, The Affair of the Necklace, Valmont and Catherine the Great. You can learn more about the fabric at here at The Costumer’s Guide.
