About the Costume

Geraldine Somerville first wore this sweet dress as Lady Emily Lennox in the 1999 series Aristocrats. Two years later, it was seen being worn by Emily Raymond as a stage actress in the 2001 television series Victoria and Albert. Bethany Gill wore the gown next as Eliza Reed in the 2006 television mini-series Jane Eyre. Because Eliza is sitting for a painting in the production, the final portrait also contains the gown.

  1. Thank you. I honestly wouldn’t even be surprised if this gown came from an even earlier production. I’m not sure how many gowns were made for Aristocrats, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this dress pops up in an older production at some point! 🙂

  2. Oh excellent. I was certain this gorgeous gown couldn’t have been made for Victoria & Albert. I should have known it was from Aristocrats! Nicely done. 🙂
