About the Costume

This splendid striped dress made its screen debut in the 1999 mini-series Aristocrats, where Carmen Du Sautoy wore it as Mary, Third Duchess of Richmond. The costume was reused in the 2000 film The Golden Bowl, where an extra wore it. In 2005 the piece was spotted on Katherine Parkinson in the Extras episode titled Ross Kemp & Vinnie Jones. In 2007 the costume was recycled by Michelle Ryan as Maria Bertram in Mansfield Park, and in 2009 Lyndsey Marshal wore it as Lady Sarah in Garrow’s Law. The most recent known appearance of the gown was in the 2015 production Poldark, where Harriet Ballard wore it as Ruth Treneglos nee Teague.
