About the Costume

This beautiful dress was first seen on Saskia Wickham as Clarissa Harlowe in the 1991 mini-series Clarissa. However, since that production contained so many reused costumes, there is a genuine possibility that this gown dates to an earlier film or television show. In 2013 the costume was used again by Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Dido Elizabeth Belle in the film Belle. Most recently, the piece was spotted on Hannah Dodd as Sophia Fitzwilliam in the 2018 second season of Harlots.
