This dark green gown with gold embroidery was made for Glenda Jackson’s portrayal of Queen Elizabeth I in the 1971 movie Mary, Queen of Scots. It was seen again on an extra in Shakespeare In Love in 1998, though it was worn without the matching capelet. In 2000 the costume was spotted in Scholastic’s production of The Royal Diaries: Elizabeth I – Red Rose of the House of Tudor, where Tamara Hope wore it as Princess Elizabeth.

  1. Vanessa Redgrave also wore a really lovley gown in a couple of scenes- it was a cornflower blue satin with gold ‘ties’ up the sleeves. The colour really suited her, it also ha a dainty gold trimmed ruff at the neck..

  2. Has it be dyed ? – I seem to remember the one in the film was dark blue ? . I recall the gown Vanessa Red grave wore in a scene was a beautiful cornflower blue with gold ‘ties’ right up the sleeves and a lovely soft ruff at the neck….they sure don’t make them like that anymore !
