About the Costume

This blue and gold gown, accented with silver beads was first worn by Lashana Lynch as Rosaline Capulet in Shondaland’s 2017 series Still Star-Crossed.

It appeared again on Denise Richards as Marie of France, Countess of Champagne in Glow & Darkness.

Glow & Darkness remains unreleased as of October 2024, as it is one of the subjects in the scandal around producer José Luis Moreno, who was arrested and then released on bail in 2021. The production company Dreamlight International Productions appears to have been dissolved after his business partner Alejandro Roemmers claimed he was defrauded of money for the series by Moreno, according to Spanish website formulatv.

  1. Tiny question: Has Anne (or someone else) already submitted the reuse in Zlatovláska (Goldilocks)?
I just saw it on dailystillstarcrossed on tumblr and then realized it is her blog it was reblogged from. Anyhow this sent me down a research spiral and I’m pretty sure I know the other two dresses featured in the promotional pictures I could find but I can’t pin them down just yet.

    • Yes, I believe she has, so I’ll need to update this page with it.  Looking forward to seeing what you find for the other featured dresses! I think one is The Spanish Princess, maybe?

      • Oh yes, of course. It should be Bessie Blount’s dress. I should have recognized that as I have had so many encounters with similar dresses that turned out not to be THAT dress that I thought that by now I can recognize it from miles away. Well at least my brain knew that it was familiar. And I found the silver and blue one as well. It very likely originated with 2012’s Isabel and had a short stint with Glow and Darkness, just like this dress. Honestly, that makes me pretty certain by now that Zlatovláska and GaD used Perez Costume House because I know that the TSP costumes were mostly, if not all, sold to them.

          • I must admit I remembered the dress from Glow & Darkness bts pictures but only after I gave Google images a chance and a random reddit post appeared where someone appreciated the costumes from Isabel. I need to watch the series eventually because, as it happens when you fall down the rabbit hole, I skipped through their season 01 image gallery and I’m pretty sure I just spotted a cloak I was 100% sure actually started its life in Maximilian – Das Spiel von Macht und Liebe but surprise, it didn’t. Who knows what else is hiding in that series and its sequel.

  2. The yellow dress with leafs on in Glow & Darkness (2021) and on a woman looks amazing and i hope its turns up somwhere else in Tv shows or movies

      • I actually think that I have seen it before but I just don’t know where yet. With this series, it could be from anything. After all, so far I found costumes from Still Star-Crossed, Reinas/Queens: The Virgin and the Martyr and, the weirdest of all, The Last Czars.

Btw I noticed there is still an n missing in then. Must have missed that and not corrected it before submitting

          • It definitely isn’t on the main characters I made gifs off years ago but that was my first guess as well. I’m wondering if it might have been a German production. I’m now pretty sure Glow & Darkness got their costumes via the PERIS costume house since I just found a post by them about the series that included a shot of the pink dress worn by Isabella of Verona in Still Star-Crossed which refered to G&D.
PERIS however doesn’t just own dresses from Spanish productions but from all over Europe, so who knows where they pulled this one from. And to be a little mean but it looks too well made for Reinas tbh.

            • It is a dress from Secret Passage, reused on extras in the first season of the Tudors. It also looks very close to another dress from Gabriella Pescucci that was made for Dangerous Beauty, except with less yellow. Actually many costumes from Dangerous Beauty were reused in Secret Passage (and then in the Tudors). I’ve meant to get on that for ages, but haven’t been able to send them yet. I don’t think this particular one appeared in Dangerous Beauty but I might be wrong.

              • I thought the same thing about the yellow costume. Wasn’t sure if it was Dangerous Beauty or not, and need to look it up. I’m not super familiar with Secret Passage and have been meaning to check it out.

                • Thank you! It’s going to be super helpful!
I think I read somewhere that Secret Passage had a very limited release, so it’s hard to find it. I found a version online in German which you speak if I remember well? I’ve only jumped through scenes and saw a lot of reuse, especially in a ball scene. Actually, now that I mention it, I think the ball scene may be on youtube in English!
                  Anyway, thanks again!

                • Yes, German is my first language. I’ll definitely look into it. I also have some other instagram pictures from the cast and crew still saved that look familiar but I can’t place yet. Maybe I can find them there.

              • I just started watching Secret Passage and there it is clear as day at about minute fifteen, even on a named character.
I also already saw that purple gold dress from Dangerous Beauty. I’m not sure, if one of the dresses at the beginning of the ball might be this pink one but I’m pretty sure that I just saw this red and golden one for a split second pass through the mass of people in the ball scene.
I guess I should watch Dangerous Beauty first 😀

                • There’s also a couple of dresses appearing in the coronation ball in Cate Blanchett’s Elizabeth (like the purple one you linked first). There’s a blue one that I’m super curious to know where it appeared first:

If someone saw it elsewhere I’d love to know!

Also I wonder if the red dress from the Tudors wasn’t first used on extras in it before being used on Margaret… Or it’s a very close one!

              • So I looked at your submission of this yellow dress from earlier (Dangerous Beauty + The Tudors) against photos from Glow & Darkness and it’s the same. The dress has been overhauled quite a lot, but it’s the same. I’ll try to post it this week.

                • I thought the one I submitted was the more white than yellow one?

Here we see both in the same scene in The Tudors (not great quality sorry):

the yellow one in the Tudors:
                  and in Secret Passage:
                  and the paler one (x2):

They are super close, and have the same pattern on the sleeves, but in different colors? And I think the one I send in Dangerous Beauty is the paler one, though the yellow one probably was also made for that movie even if it wasn’t used?

                  • You’re right, the one you submitted is more yellow. This is really interesting, because the yellow dresses and the yellow/orange dress are so similar. Even the sleeves. It must have come from Dangerous Beauty as well.
