About the Costume

This elegant dress was originally made for the 1998 production Elizabeth, where Kelly MacDonald wore it as Isabel Knollys. Its second appearance was in The Royal Diaries: Elizabeth I in 2000 when Tamara Hope wore it as Princess Elizabeth. An uncredited actress playing a courtier wore the costume in 2005’s The Virgin Queen. 

Natalie Dormer went on to wear it as Anne Boleyn in 2007 in The TudorsThe Tudors used the dress a second time in 2009 when it was worn by an extra. Interestingly, the dress is also visible on the cover of Angels Costumes book Behind the Seams by James Bellini.

  1. Not a 100% sure, because of the big stones, but Tamara Hope (as Elizabeth) is wearing a necklace very, very, very, similar to the one in Anne O’Brien’s “Virgin Widow”).

    Perhaps it was modified, because the pearls are the same. Just count them and you’ll see.

  2. The Tudor – An extra at Cromwell’s execution (2009 – season 3)

    I’m sure I’ll appear as a guest down here. I erased that comment, but this thing doesn’t erase them completely

  3. This dress shows up on the cover of the 2011 novel “The Girl in the Mirror.” It looks different than the back view shown from The Tudors, though.
