About the Costume

This gauzy ruff, embellished with pearls and gold embroidered crosses was first worn by Alexandra Dowling as Queen Anne in the seventh episode of the 2014 first season of The Musketeer, entitled A Rebellious Woman.

The short-lived and bafflingly costumed Spanish series Reinas, known in the United States as Queens: The Virgin and the Martyr reused this piece, unfurling the heavily pleated material, giving us a better view of the embroidery. It too was worn in the seventh episode, entitled Desperation.

Costume Commentary

  1. Baffingly is a nice euphemism for how I would describe the series’ very…unique approach to costuming.
I honestly wouldn’t have recognized the piece like that and I honestly prefer the Musketeer version tbh.

    • Yeaaahhhh, I try not to be too terribly harsh (or at least creatively harsh) unless the costume designer is dead. Believe me, there is one particular designer I’d loooooove to lambast, because I have some VERY real opinions, but I just can’t do it.  And I agree, the way The Musketeers has it worn is better.

  2. Is It same pattern costume, it looks diffrent….but i loves both there ruff on gown and loves necklace that Queen Anne wears in The Musketeers
