About the Costume

This beautiful cloak was first worn seen on Peter Jeffrey as King Philip II of Spain in the 1971 production Elizabeth R. After several decades, it was seen in the 2007 series of The Tudors, where it was worn by Steve Waddington as the Duke of Buckingham.

Though it is not clear where the cloak originated, there is a good chance that it first appeared in Anne of the Thousand Days or in A Man for All Seasons.

Note the difference in picture quality between Elizabeth R and The Tudors. The high resolution promotional images from The Tudors really allow one to see the depth and detail of the piece in a way that Elizabeth R does not.
