This dress originated in the 1997 adaptation of Jane Eyre, where Samantha Morton wore it in the title role. Victoria Hamilton would wear the gown while taking on the part of Queen Victoria in the 2001 production Victoria and Albert. Finally, 2005’s BBC adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel Bleak House saw the actress Natalie Press wear the costume in the part of Caddy Jellyby.
