About the Costume

Walter Plunkett made seventeen versions of this calico gown for Vivien Leigh to wear in the 1939 film Gone With the Wind. One version, not yet found, apparently appears in The Sombrero Kid in 1942.

Another version was worn by Eilene Janssen as Judy Dawson in Buckaroo Sheriff of Texas in 1951, though the sleeves and collar were altered. The film is in black and white, so its color is never seen, though lobby cards color it incorrectly as yellow.

One of the dresses made its way into the Shaw Tumblin Gone With the Wind Collection and was eventually sold by Heritage Auctions in April 2015. You can see the listing here.
