About the Costume

This costume was designed for Anne Stallybrass to wear as Anna Strauss in the 1972 production of The Strauss Family. That same year, Gabrielle Hamilton was seen wearing it in Cranford as Miss Matty Jenkyns. The 1976 Dickens of London went on to use the piece, where Adrienne Burgess wore it as Catherine Hogarth Dickens. In 1982 the dress was spotted for the fourth and fifth time in The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, first on Cathryn Harrison as Henrietta Petowker and later by extra as a member of an acting troupe.
