About the Costume

This costume was first spotted in the 1984 BBC series Freud. Because a main character did not wear the piece, and because there is no costume designer listed for the mini-series, the costume almost certainly originated with an earlier production.

The costume went on to be recycled by Sarah Brightman as Christine Daae in a 1986 The Phantom of the Opera promotional music video for the song Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again. It appeared for the third time in 1988 in A Summer Story, where Sophie Ward wore it in the role of Stella Halliday. Its last appearance was in 1996 in the Road to Avonlea, worn by Kay Tremblay as Great Aunt Eliza.
