About the Costume

This incredible blue Victorian gown was likely created for Nicola Pagett to wear in the title role of the 1977 adaptation of Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. In 1983, the gown was worn again by Katharine Schlesinger as Gwendoline in the 1989 season of Doctor Who in the bizarre but beloved episode Ghostlight.

Thanks to the show’s ingenious time-traveling plot lines, Doctor Who has been able to showcase a wide array of reused costumes from various time periods, many of which are documented here!
