About the Costume

This green wool period costume is comprised of two pieces. The jacket with leg-o-mutton sleeves is ornamented with black bugle beads in a spider web motif, and the skirt contains beaded butterflies. The piece was designed by Helen Rose for Angela Lansbury as Em in the 1946 film The Harvey Girls. The costume was seen again in the 1955 production of It’s a Dog’s Life, where Jarma Lewis wore it as Maybel Maycroft. It was seen again in 1960 when it was spotted being worn by an extra in Cimarron.
