I’m like 95% sure I have seen this dress before. My first guess is The Young Victoria because – if I remember correctly – it was the same costume designer as Cinderella and we’ve seen other reuses from it in that Disney movie. But I could be wrong.

Costume Commentary

I agree that this dress originated with The Young Victoria. I did actually browse through photos of that film before posting this just in case I could find it. I didn’t…but I didn’t watch the entire film, and even if it doesn’t appear, doesn’t mean it wasn’t made for the film. I’m very confident, like you, that it originated with Victoria.
Agree, time period (costume as well as scheduling-wise) and designer fit plus TYV had similar fabrics, iirc. I remember having searched for pics as well some time back, but alas… this is as close as I came: On Miranda Richardson. Similar but much more out there – as befits her character in the film.

Thank you!
I’ve had dresses made from this mossy green to powder red fabric that looks like chinese ice died but is probably woven that way on my radar for a while now. There must be at least one rococo model of it as well. Here is one hidden under a pink cape at the wedding in Love and Friendship – could be a rococo one, could even be the above one.

18th C version no 2 on Alexia Giordano (?) in the Casanova pilot that amazon did put up for vote in 2015 but that nver made it into a series.

Woah, this is a great pull! Thank you!
S3E1 of The Great, 2019. Again, always so shy of granting a full view. Anyway, I’m pretty sure it/one of them passed the streets and background in many another production post Coppola’s Marie Antoinette – not that I could pin it down in that movie, though I suspected one of Lamballe’s for some time, but MA seems to have influenced the powdery colour palette of later 18th c-set movies quite a bit and this fabric just fits into it.
ETA: Seems I’ve reached my limit for uploading IMGs from the drive… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thank you!
Thanks for posting this, lovley gown….
You’re very welcome!
