Costume Commentary

  1. I don’t think Georgiana’s outfit is the same gown – the stripes look closer together, the neckline’s a different shape, and there’s nowhere near the same fullness in the bust as in 1995.

      • I think a closer look at the sleeves would be most helpful. The shape of the neckline and fullness of the bodice are very changable with that style dress. Remember the one worn by Felicity Jones in Northanger Abbey, that looked so different on Samantha Bond in Mansfield Park?

        • I took another look at the sleeves, and they are indeed the same dress. I’ve got to work to find some more detailed high res photos – but the on Tamzin is definitely the one worn by Jennifer Ehle. The edging on the sleeves (as you suspected) is what gives it away as being the same.

          • I thought so. I recall the sleeve edges when I was comparing the other sightings, years ago. IMO they’re all the same costume.

I found another HQ from P&P2005 for you.

The companion book for Regency House Party is loaded with great pics, but not many of them are available online. :-/ I wonder if Channel Four would send them, if they were requested?

  2. In the picture from “Byron” there’s a girl wearing a “white gown with pink and gold stripes and side closure” (according to Imdb), later worn by Daisy Haggard as Anne Steele in “Sense & Sensibility” (2008, BBC), during the London ball scene…
