About the Costume

This lovely blue regency inspired gown, accented with flowers around the neckline, was likely created by Joan Ellacott for the 1972 BBC adaptation of Emma, where it made its debut on Doran Godwin as Emma Woodhouse.

In the 70s, the BBC still had its own costume department, and so it is not a surprise that the costume was pulled again for use in another BBC production, the 1979 miniseries, The Prince Regent.

In 2003 the costume was spotted on an extra in Hans Christian Andersen: My Life as a Fairy Tale.

Finally, in 2023 it was worn by Crystal Clarke as Georgiana Lambe in the third and final season of Sanditon.
