This gown was created for the 1995 version of Sense and Sensibility, where it was worn on Gemma Jones as Mrs. Dashwood. It was used again for the 2002 documentary The Real Jane Austen, where it was worn by Wendy Craig as Mrs. Lefroy. In 2003 it was seen in Byron on Pennie Downey as Lady Milbanke, and in 2004 it was used in the reality television series Regency House Party, where it was worn by Mrs. Enright.  It was seen on an extra in the 2005 Pride and Prejudice, and on Gemma Redgrave as Lady Bertam in the 2007 Mansfield Park. It was seen a second time in 2007, when it appeared on Francesca Annis as Lady Ludlow in Cranford. In 2011 it was worn in The Supersizers: Giles and Sue’s Royal Wedding as Sue Perkins. It was seen again most recently in 2016 on Caroline’s companion in Poldark.

Costume Commentary

    • I don’t believe it is the same costume, although similar. The stripes on the sleeves are vertical, where as the stripes on the sleeves of the S&S gown are horizontal.
