About the Costume

This beautiful dress made its first screen appearance in 1988 when it was seen on actress Helena Michell as Sarah Wilson in The Deceivers. It was then reused in two Jane Austen novel adaptations. The first was the 1995  Pride and Prejudice, where it was worn by Joanna David as Mrs. Gardiner, followed by the 1996 production of Emma, where Greta Scacchi wore it as Mrs. Weston. In 1999, the television mini-series Wives and Daughters recycled the dress two times, first on Barbara Flynn as Mrs. Browning, as well as an uncredited extra. The next actress to wear the dress was Georgia King as Pet Meagles in the 2008 Little Dorrit. Finally, 2015’s Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell recycled the costume on an extra.
