About the Costume

The costume has seen use across fifteen years and five productions. It was first spotted on Polly Maberly as Kitty Bennet in the 1995 Pride and Prejudice. 1996’s television production of Emma saw the piece recycled on an extra, and in 1999 Justine Waddell wore the spencer in her role of Julia Bertram in Mansfield Park. It would be some time before the piece was spotted again, eventually being seen eight years later on Rosamund Stephan as Henrietta Musgrove in the 2007 adaptation of Persuasion. Finally, the piece was seen on Sarah Ovens as the second Miss Martin in the 2009 version of Emma.

Costume Commentary

  1. I couldn’t get a decent screencap, but, in that picture from “Emma” (2009), Harriet’s white bonnet is previously worn by an uncredited actress as the bride in “Miss Austen Regrets”, during the first wedding…

I let the information here, if someone is interested in looking for it…!!
