About the Costume

This lovely Regency style gown was designed by Ruth Myers for Gweneth Paltrow in the 1996 film Emma (not to be confused with the ITV adaptation of Emma, which also premiered in 1996). Myers designs for the film earned her a nomination for best costume design at the Academy Awards, though she did not win.

This gown was used again in the 2007 adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion, where it was worn on Jennifer Higham as Louisa Musgrove. It was used a third time in the 2013 BBC production of Death Comes to Pemberley on Eleanor Tomlinson as Georgiana Darcy. In 2016 it was seen in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies on Millie Brady as Mary Bennet. Finally, it was worn in 2019 by Rose Williams as Charlotte Heywood in Sanditon.
