Costume Commentary

  1. I think my last sighting might have been lost in the conversion to the new comments provider.I saved it (and a few others) to my hard drive so I’m re-posting.  🙂

Egypt: The Mystery of the Rosetta Stone
    2005
Costume seen on Patrick Ryecart as Hudson Gurney

  2. Yes isn’t it? I’m beginning to fancy a bright yellow dress myself, seeing all those beautiful yellow gowns.

the film hasn’t been shown in cinemas over here as well. seems to be some kind of a ghost story set during WWII or shortly before and regency times. just seen the trailer (here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19bYsqvlXp0&p=F95380B1A47F1DC0&playnext=1&index=34) and found some reused costumes (more of them here: http://www.iphpbb.com/board/ftopic-42984132nx96638-200-300.html#8253).

by the way: the dress is only shown very briefly in “bright star” and one sees more, when the pictures are “moving”. but the detail on the puffed sleeves looks very much like carice van houtens gown. what do you think?

  3. here’s the waistcoat on in “from time to time” on douglas booth as sefton. the yellow dress on carice van houten as maria oldnow might have been in the ball scene in “bright star”, but that still needs checking.

  4. Thanks Anna! I must have overlooked it the first time I scrolled through. I’ll go look again. 🙂 You’re awesome! Thanks so much for all of your help with identification!

  5. Ah, yes of course. You’re right. My bad. Sorry Kathryn. As I said: Quite confusing, all those tall dark handsome actors, if they even cannot be told apart by their wardrobes… ;o)

  6. the thrid man is not jeremy northam as mister knightly in miramax emma, it’s richard harrington as esther summersons future husband allen woodcourt in bleak house 2005.

the waistcoat reused on serveral austen-heros, starting with northam’s mister knightley and going to james d’arcy’s tom bertram (ITV’s MP0 7), dan stevens edward ferrars (S&S 08) and somehow to jj feilds (NA’s tilney) as frank cheryble in “nicholas nickleby (the version with with d’arcy as the main character – really confusing, i admit) was the one mentioned in this posting:
